SepticTankHub exists to fix that. We built a free, comprehensive directory of septic service companies across all 50 states — with real ratings, verified business information, services offered, and the local context you need to make a confident decision. No pay-to-play rankings. No hidden fees to see contact information. Just honest data organized in a way that actually helps homeowners.

I've had a weird fascination with where things go when they disappear. As a kid, I was the one asking what happens after you flush — not to be gross, but because I genuinely wanted to understand the system. That curiosity never really went away. Years later, I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole about septic systems and wastewater infrastructure, and I was surprised by how little most homeowners know about the system buried in their yard, the one they depend on every single day.
By day, I work in enterprise technology, helping businesses build better communication systems. That background gave me a specific lens: I kept noticing that the septic industry had a transparency problem. Homeowners had no easy way to compare companies, verify credentials, or understand what a fair price looked like. The information was out there, but it was scattered across outdated directories, pay-to-play listing sites, and company websites that all claimed to be "the best."
So I built SepticTankHub, a free, data-driven directory that organizes verified company information in a way that actually helps people make decisions. Every listing starts with real Google Business Profile data. Every rating comes from actual customer reviews. And every piece of content is researched with the same obsessive curiosity that got me into this in the first place.
When I'm not working on the directory, I'm probably reading about emerging technology, on a tennis court somewhere (my actual dream is to spend a summer in Europe doing nothing but playing tennis), or explaining to friends why septic systems are more interesting than they think. They're still not convinced.
How SepticTankHub Makes Money
We believe in full transparency about how this site is funded. Every company listed on SepticTankHub has a free listing — we will never charge for basic inclusion or hide contact information behind a paywall.
We generate revenue through optional Featured Listings, where companies can pay a monthly subscription to appear at the top of their city's results with enhanced profiles. Featured listings are always clearly marked with a "Featured" badge so you know the difference. We also offer call tracking services to help companies measure their leads.
This model means our free listings stay free forever, and Featured companies earn their spot by investing in visibility — not by paying us to hide their competitors.
Where It Comes From
Every company in our directory starts with verified Google Business Profile data — real business names, addresses, phone numbers, hours, and customer ratings from actual Google reviews. We then enrich each listing by visiting company websites to verify services offered, service areas, emergency availability, and specializations.
Our data is refreshed regularly and we provide tools for businesses to claim and update their own listings for free. We currently track over 10,584 septic service companies across 5,781+ cities in all 50 states plus Washington D.C.

Verification Methodology
Every company in our directory passes a multi-source verification check. We don't list companies based on a single data point — the directory combines four independent signals to confirm a business is real, operating, and reachable.
- Google Business Profile cross-reference. Every company starts as a verified Google Maps listing — meaning Google has independently confirmed the business name, address, phone, and operating status.
- State licensing record lookup where the state maintains a public contractor license database (about 18 states do). License numbers, expiry dates, and any disciplinary actions are surfaced in the company profile.
- Active phone + website validation. We periodically test that listed phone numbers connect and that websites load. Companies failing this check are marked stale and reviewed before they reappear in city listings.
- Review velocity sanity check. Reviews flat-lined for 12+ months often indicate a company has stopped operating — we use review recency to gate whether a profile stays in active city rankings.
Pricing data in our cost guides and calculators comes from three sources: EPA on-site wastewater program benchmarks, state contractor association pricing surveys (where published), and our own quarterly contractor pricing surveys across all 50 states. Every cost figure on this site is dated so you know when it was last refreshed.

Editorial Policy
Every article on SepticTankHub goes through a three-phase quality process. We don't publish first-draft AI content. We don't publish thin affiliate-bait. The process is deliberately slow because the alternative produces the kind of generic, surface-level content that's flooding the internet — and the kind of content that homeowners with real septic problems can't actually use.
- Phase 1 — Research. Keyword research, People-Also-Ask question mining, source-citation gathering (EPA documents, state code references, manufacturer spec sheets), and identification of related articles for internal linking.
- Phase 2 — Writing. Articles are drafted against a defined outline targeting a specific primary keyword + 5–10 secondary keywords. Every article includes a Quick Answer block (for AI Overview citation), structured tables for scannability, FAQ blocks, and at least 6–10 internal links.
- Phase 3 — Independent quality review against 9 criteria: keyword coverage, uniqueness, actionability, AI-detection avoidance, internal linking quality, featured-snippet readiness, E-E-A-T signals, FAQ quality, and interactive element placement. Articles scoring below 80% are rewritten before publication.
What we won't do: We never accept payment for editorial coverage. We never let a contractor write or influence an article that mentions their company. We never use generic placeholder content ("In conclusion, septic systems are important"). When a contractor pays us for a Featured listing tier, that listing is clearly labeled — never disguised as editorial endorsement.
Corrections policy: If you find a factual error in any article, email [email protected] with the article URL and the specific issue. We aim to correct verified errors within 5 business days and note the correction date on the article.
